Sheesha/Hookah/Hubbly bubbly pipe :)
We had school in the morning today as well as sports in the afternoon.
This was the hottest day we have had in so long. It was almost unbearable and we even had to take the kids outside to work in the morning. Naomi from the hostel joined us which was good and funny because she worked with Juliana who has a very slim attention span and so spent a lot of the day running off. I was with Lazider and it was great as he's the most intelligent and I've never seen him work so hard. I bought him a well earned juice drink during the break.
For sports we ended up consuming 15 litres of water instead of the usual 5 litres! And several bolly's were also purchased (the same sort of idea as ice pops). This neighbourhood Oasis is slightly worse off than the one we work at in the mornings. The water that they use and drink is dirty, from some spray hose system on the ground that they pull apart. Today one of the kids asked a volunteer if they were thirsty. Of course the volunteer replied "yes," to which the child responded by taking his water bottle over the pipes and filling it up. These children are so great and such an inspiration. It's just so sad to see how they live and their lack of opportunities. This great blog entry gives a little more background about the organisation and shows just how wonderful the kids are!
As soon as we got back to the hostel we jumped straight into the pool where the other volunteers who left before us had already joined. Next thing Brie has brought the sheesha right over to the pool, such a funny afternoon. Brie went off to La Brisa Loca to do the quiz later whilst I had a most-needed early night.
