Mineral spa culture
The bathing culture of St. Moritz is deeply rooted, dating back to 1400 years BC. The mineral springs with their ferrous and aerated waters achieved great fame and appreciation during the Middle Ages under Pope Leo X and the naturopath Paracelsus. Recently the Forum Paracelsus has been restored and now hosts a museum about the mineral springs. This modest building sits between the ultra modern Ovaverva pool/spa centre and the grand and traditional Kempinski Hotel. And there are other spas not only in St Moritz but also in the other towns and villages along the valley.
Ovaverva is derived from the romansch language, meaning lively sparkling water.
