Carsington Water
I went to the dentist this morning. My regular hygienist was back (after being off sick the last twice I have been) and it was great to see her again. I confessed to my dentist that I had been doing a bit of amateur dentistry - in that I had used an emergency filling repair kit. He actually said that I had done a good job ! Amazing, because I am a real wimp.
My dentist is in Ashbourne - where I went as a child. I'm not good with dentists. I've tried to change to places closer to where I live but have only ever got as far as the front door !
It was such a glorious morning that I decided to treat myself to a visit to Carsington Water, not very far away.
It was crisp and icy but the roads had been cleared of snow. I wondered if I had been foolish as I headed down through Kniveton-on ice. As I said, I am a wimp - and a wimpy driver too. I'm not brave like my sister, Dandales, who can drive anything through any conditions on any roads !
Anyway, no mishaps.
It was magnificent. I hadn't got proper walking or ice gear on so I stuck (mainly) to the cleared footpaths. I went over to Stones Island, which is said to be Severn Trent's contribution to the Derbyshire tradition of hilltop monuments. Cut from Derbyshire gritstone and fashioned in Birchover (of stone circle and druid fame), it is the creation of Lewis Knight.
It is well worth a visit.
And the perfect treat after the trials of the dentist
