Something happened today

Dropped Erin off at school and then usually I would leave that car park and set straight to work . Today for the first time ever , I decided to spend ten minutes just sitting in the car calmly before I drove off . A chance to breath and be centred before a busy day. Something was telling me I needed to sit still for a while .

Bear with me , this ten minutes is key .

I eventually drove into town where clearly there had been a serious accident involving two cars . There were no emergency services there at that point.

I knew I had to abandon my car in the chaos that was building to check how people were. Nurses don't always make the best first aiders as we are used to hospitals and equipment . I had nothing with me but my duty of care and a conscience.

One car seemed to have no one left in it . The remaining one had a couple in it with two ( luckily empty ) childrens' seats . Someone told me an ambulance was on the way but the woman was very distressed . All I could think was she mustn't move and I need to keep her awake and try and keep her calm .

There was no obvious blood loss to stem but she was terrified and in pain and wanting to move. Her head ached she said . The only medicine I had was me . I held her hand , stroked her arm and just kept telling her help was on the way and to keep as still as she could . It's very humbling being with someone in that situation and all that's left when you are in the centre of chaos is human touch and human connection .

I left once the ambulance came . I hadn't witnessed the accident just found it just after it had happened .

I found out on the news that the lady has been moved to Leeds with serious head and neck injuries . I am so glad she never moved . She could have been in a much worse state . I don't know much about trauma but I do know unstable neck fractures can be catastrophic .
I don't know her name . I don't know how she is now. I don't know how to find out. I just hope she survives and that she has no spinal chord injury .

Had I set off ten minutes earlier as is my usual wont, I wouldn't have been part of any of this today


Forces at work. Guardian angel forces at work . Angel whispers at work.

I know many will think this is just coincidence. Much has been written and proffered on the philosophy of synchronicity and cause and effect.
I can't explain how this feels but it was a day with a purpose .
