'Soar'

This is a painting that the Minx did called 'Soar'. I have a copy up in my hallway and a few months ago, when he came to visit, my friend Mark fell in love with it.

I've never been able to get to a point of understanding what it is about the illustration that I love so much and it was odd to see someone else be similarly affected. I gave him a copy for Christmas and he was bowled over by it and, today, when I went to his house, I saw he had it up in his living room.

Mark and I are similar in some respects but our taste in music, for example, is completely different. I like the pictures he has up in his house but (allowing for the new exception of 'Soar') there's nothing that I would hang on my walls. Which isn't to damn Mark's tastes with faint praise; it's just that I think most of us have to like a picture a lot before we'll buy it and hang it on our walls.

I wonder if there is some significance in the fact that we both like this picture? The only band we both like is Elbow and I don't find any particular importance in that. I wonder if there is something more personal in loving a picture?
