The rower

Seduced by the charm of an elderly Vietnamese couple with no English but a sturdy river-going vessel, we went for a little boat ride up the river today. Just a 30 minute paddle, with this lady and her equally wrinkly and jovial husband both enthusiastically rowing us up and then back down the river (although we were overtaken by many a tourist on the riverside at strolling pace). 
Their rowing action was certainly a bit less efficient than usual, and more of a "stabbing the river" with a pole, but they were so happy to be doing it that we were in no hurry to get anywhere fast.
