Havent done this for a while...

My first star trails shot in some time and my first with the new camera. I'll try and update this later with links to my previous star trail blips...

large

Not all went to plan... I tried to encompass the fading light into my process so I left the camera in aperture priority thinking that after it got dark it would down and max out a 30 seconds... for some reason it did not... once it got dark exposure lengths maxed out at 10 secs for some reason... This meant that withe the timer set to take shots every 30 seconds there were 20 seconds gaps between each shot. It doesnt show up so much when reduced to this size but when vewing at much higher rez each trail is a line of dashes...

If I hadnt been trying to get shots for a time lapse video of the fading light as well then I woild have used manual mode and set the exposure time to 30 seconds manually.

Oh well you lives and learns eh!

And one other thing I learned... with 36 megapixel images stacking over 300 them in one photoshop file makes for slooow editing... poor computer was struggling rather badly... and its got 16gb of ram!!

In previous Star Trail blips I have written more on how these shots are done and what you are actually seeing...

-Friday 25 November 2011: 3 hours of trailing stars and planes
-Tuesday 8 November 2011: New timer
-Monday 29 August 2011: Through Irenes Tail
-Tuesday 23 August 2011: Star Trails on the Flight Path
