Saltire in the gloom
The saltire is flying today on the flagpole on Dunoon's Castle Hill. I assume it's not in celebration of St Paul, but did wonder if this was an official sighting (because of one Robert Burns, a poet) or a guerrilla move. For normal people who don't live in Dunoon, it might be necessary to explain that for months and months the most visible flagpole in the town remains bare; the Council refuse to fly the country's flag except on clearly defined occasions. It is murmured in some quarters that they are feart of offending Unionists, and shouted aloud in others that to fly the Union flag would offend many, so inaction clearly seems the safest option.
But today, as the rain blows horizontally above the sea pounding the promenade wall, the saltire is flying.
