A 'Catastrophe' for Our Town

A certain supermarket chain is suffering from diminishing fortunes and as a result, needs to get its finances in order. For us, it means their new supermarket will not be built along with over 40 others that were planned across the country. Pro-campaigners have hailed this a potential 'catastrophe' for Manningtree, the smallest town in England, which could benefit from investment that would have been brought by the arrival of Tesco. Perhaps they could sell their site to a competitor who has the cash to build?

No, I am convinced the Co-op will stand as the only supermarket in town for years to come. Tesco may well sell the site, but they would have to be in deep trouble to consider selling to a competitor for short-term cash gain. So it won't be a quick sale (no buy one, get one free or 3 for 2 offers here). The council won't be happy as the old buildings and factories on the land are considered an eyesore. Although the boarding covering broken windows have been decorated by a local artist, which is a bit of an improvement, or as they say, every little helps...
