Loch of Wasdale
The forecast was poor so, after a nice lie-in, I headed along to Binscarth for a short walk along to Wasdale. The wood was quiet with a few blackbirds, robins and goldcrests. By the farm with the junked vehicles, I made coffee in the cabin of a 1987 Mercedes-Benz truck. On the loch were a pair of goosanders which are uncommon visitors to Orkney. I don't think I've seen them on this loch before. Lots of wigeon and tufted duck too. A pair of ravens flew low and near, giving me the once-over. On the way back, shooters put up a couple of woodcock. One escaped, but I'm not sure the other was as fortunate.
