The Parish Churches of Guernsey #15
It is a glorious day today but rather then head for the coast I decided to photograph another Parish Church; this one is the Castel Church. It is at the top of a long hill and has great views towards the west coast.
There are pics of the inside on Flickr.
I don't have any personal memories about the Castel Church but the interesting thing about all the Parish Churches in Guernsey is that the ratepayers of the (secular) parishes are responsible for their upkeep and maintenance rather than the Church of England. So when any work is needed not only do you need a faculty but also the approval of the ratepayers. But to put it all in context the annual parish rates bill payable by a householder is a fraction of the Council Tax paid in the UK.
