McGraw Kaserne

The former Reichszeugmeisterei was built in the 1930s, taken over by the NSDAP in 1934, and extended until 1937 to its present-day dimensions. During the Third Reich it was housing the so called Reichsautozug Deutschland (automobile platoon), which was responsible for technical support (loudspeaker systems) and catering at mass events. The complex was only minimally damaged during WWII, as it was considered of no strategic importance by the Allied Forces.

After the surrender of Munich the U.S. troops occupied the area on 30.04.1945. They renamed the former Reichszeugmeisterei to McGraw Kaserne (German loanword for barracks) and further enlarged it. Until 1992 it was used by changing units of the U.S. armed forces.

Since the Americans have left the area in 1992, the Bavarian police uses parts of the former McGraw Kaserne as branch of the police headquarters and garage. Other parts are now used as a dormitory and some buildings were renovated and are residential buildings now.
