Sunny day rain bird

This was a day of deep frustration and disappointment. After two abortive attempts I was finally going birding with Themba to the Nibella Peninsula. We left St Lucia stupidly early in the morning only for the game viewer we had borrowed to develop terminal mechanical difficulty leaving us stranded in the middle of nowhere! A lot of pushing, some cursing, much waiting around and a very long slow tow later we limped back into town feeling pretty sorry for ourselves.

This Burchell's coucal, known locally as the rain bird, was one of the few things we saw and even he stayed half concealed in the top of a tree!
