Washington National Cathedral

I spent the morning taking photos at the National Cathedral in D.C.  During this week, the nave has been cleared of all the chairs. It was open to several photography groups early today, before it was open to the public.

The cathedral sits on one of the highest points in the area and can be seen from many locations in the city.  Construction began in 1907 and took 83 years to complete.  Part of the altar area is currently closed off because of ongoing repairs to the cathedral for damage incurred during the 2011 Virginia earthquake.

I only have a 16mm (24 mm equivalent) lens,  so I couldn’t get super wide shots, but I think this image gives you an idea of the size of the nave. There are 200 stained glass windows and I managed to get a few shots of those, as well as some of the other architectural features and some miscellany.
They are uploaded HERE if you have additional interest.

I have never done this kind of architectural photography before so this was a new experience for me, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed.
