Of the various instruments I've been playing lately the one that's giving me most problems is my guitar. Partly that's because the nerve damage to my left hand interferes with chord shapes on a fretboard more than it does melody and ornaments on a woodwind but the main problem is the difficulty raising my arms above the vertical. I'm trying to compensate by adopting a more classical guitarist position but it's still a problem. I've always wanted to add banjo and mandolin to my repertoire and so this guitar problem has quickened my interest in them. When I mentioned the guitar problem to my physiotherapist the other day she immediately suggested banjo - she's had patients with similar problems who've found that a solution....great minds think alike. Can't afford a banjo at present though so I'll persevere with guitar. My ukulele (always fun) has also been dusted off ...perhaps I should get a banjolele...but then I might turn into George Formby...gulp!...
