A ha'porth of chips to grease your lips

Ro'n i yn y dre heddiw.  Roedd rhaid i mi fynd i'r llyfrgell i edrych ar hen bapurau newydd.  Ar y ffordd yn ôl i'r gwaith stopiais i ar Yr Aes lle oedd y siop sglodion newydd.  Prynais i ddogn o sglodion ac eisteddais i i fwyta yn yr heulwen anarferol. Ro'n i'n hatgoffa o rywbeth roedd fy mam arfer ddweud 'a ha'porth of chips to grease your lips' - dw i ddim yn gwybod o ble mae'r dywediad yn dod. Dw i ddim yn meddwl gallech chi'n prynu llawer o sglodion gyda hanner ceiniog y dyddiau hyn. Mae llawer o atgofion da o fy mam gyda fi ac roedd e'n dda i feddwl amdani hi heddiw.

I was in town today. I had to go to the library to look at old newspapers. On the way back to work i stopped  on The Hayes where there was a new chip shop. I bought a portion of chips and sat to eat in the unusual sunshine. I was reminded of something my mother used to say  'a ha'porth of chips to grease your lips' - I don't know where the saying comes from. I don't think that you could buy a lot of chips with half penny these days. I have a lot of good memories of my mother and it was good to think about her today.
