Operatic
Too hot to feel any inclination to go anywhere today – and besides, I was trying to get my head round our daughter’s uni assignment, in order to be able to point her (hopefully) in the right direction. I wasn’t too successful and suspect both of us will be up into the wee hours – and the poor child’s two hours ahead of me.
The bem-te-vis (I-can-see-you's, aka Great Kiskadees), put on a great show today. It seems the parent birds were teaching the youngster that it was time for him to fend for himself (or there may have been two youngsters and only one parent). Either way, there was a lot of hopeful opening of mouths, even at the bird bath, but no-one was putting anything in anyone else’s mouth. In fact, one bird caught a fat worm and, after hopping up onto a log close to the other two, gobbled it down before their eyes without sharing so much as a morsel. The two deprived birds then took to the stage to express their distress in operatic terms, before taking their bow.
When it cooled down, I was about to take Kayla for a walk when I spotted a couple of Guans on a tree at the end of what we laughingly call our lawn. I dragged HH out to see them and was able to get reasonably close, but was disappointed with the shots I got of them. In fact, I’ve been disappointed with the quality of all the pics today, I had hoped for better with the tripod and a 70-300mm lens. I guess I didn’t have the camera on the right setting. Really must find time to RTFM.
