Lead, Kindly Light, amidst th'encircling gloom
It always amazes me what the brain remembers. Walking on the beach today the light was, as ever, stunning and I couldn't get out of my head the word and tune of Cardinal Newman's hymn, Lead, Kindly Light. The favourite hymn of a previous headmaster we used to sing it a lot - one of the lesser appreciated perks of being a Headmaster is that you get to chose the hymns - until he left after which I probably haven't heard it once in the last fifteen years.
However the sonorous words and the tune still stay there. If only you could remember the more mundanely useful things as easily.
Still windy, still no ferries.
