Following the light
Today was an afternoon photo workshop at Housesteads on Hadrian's Wall. It was part of the John Martin festival organised by devotees in Haydon Bridge and led by the excellent David Taylor.
On a grey wet day it is hard to create the atmosphere of Martin in landscape photography. Most of the time I was wiping lenses and filters.
We spent quite a lot of time in the woods above Housesteads and I wondered whether to blip some interesting images of woodrush. However, I loved this landscape. I used a couple of images and combined them because the raindrops on one were in different positions from the raindrops in the other. (Any fuzziness to the right side is due to a fire in the distance.) Iused a 3 stop ND hard grad to expose the sky correctly.
This view is east from Housesteads Roman Fort. You can see the Wall snaking its way along the top edge of the Whin Sill.
