Escape to the country

Set off early today on a trip to Somerset, where our son and daughter-in-law recently moved. The early part of the trip was in atrociously wet and windy weather, but the worst of it cleared by the time we were driving past Stonehenge on the A303.

Their new home, a 17th century cottage, is enchanting and in a wonderfully tranquil location, but is currently in the 'before' phase. There is a lot they want to do to it, and over coming months it will gradually evolve into the modernised 'after' that they want it to be. We'll enjoy seeing how it progresses.

We went for a trip around the area, and called in to an excellent farm shop where the prices were rather keener than our local ones in Kent. Then we went to a glorious emporium of West Country food and drink, Pyne's of Somerset, where the meat, seafood and other produce is rather pricey but wonderful quality.
