detail of interior, Bayeux Cathedral, Normandy
This cathedral - not the first on this site - was consecrated in 1077.
France has many fine cathedrals; Bayeux cathedral has character galore and is always a delight to visit.
The Bayeux tapestry was designed to hang in the cathedral nave, and centuries ago part of it would have occupied the space just above the arch.
There are distinct similarities here with St Peter's Church in Petersfield, built about 50 years later.
