My Court of Honor
After a Boy Scout goes through his Eagle Board of Review, he becomes an Eagle Scout. Since this is the highest rank a scout can attain, it is customary to have an Eagle Court of Honor. This is basically a ceremony which includes pinning the medal on the scout, giving him his neckerchief, and having him recite the Eagle Scout Oath for the first time. This is a picture from my court of honor. It is my uncle reading the letter of recommendation that he had wrote. He knew that my artillery unit was going to be there in their blue uniforms, so he decided to be the only Confederate there. This was a few moments before I gave him the Eagle Scout Mentor award. When an Eagle Scout gets his presentation kit, he is given a sew-on patch, an Eagle Scout Medal, and three pins. Two of these pins are dark grey in color and are to be given to the parents of the scout. However, the third is a gold oval and it is the Eagle Scout Mentor award. I couldn’t think of anyone better to give this to than my Uncle Herbie. After my speech, I was given various awards and commendations from Senator Argall, The Artillery Reserve, and the House of Representatives. I was also given commendations in the mail from 5 presidents, the Secretary of State, NASA, The Gettysburg Foundation, the Cincinnati Reds, the Cincinnati Bengals, and various other groups who were unable to be at the ceremony.
