Sunrise
The colors in the sky were glorious this morning when I got up, beginning to fade as I ran for my camera, and gone by the time I finished snapping a few pictures.
Freedom of the press has been tested over and over through history. The forms it has taken have changed beyond comprehension, yet people continue to die defending it. If anything good can be said to have come out of yesterday's awful events in Paris, it is the solidarity showed by people standing vigil in Paris and many other cities around the world. It is the word of many Muslim clerics stating that the terrorists did not speak for them, and the touching tributes of fellow cartoonists from around the world.
In our own way, we blippers are a community of writers and chroniclers. We take for granted our freedom to post our thoughts and stories and ideas, yet by doing so we can remind ourselves of our freedom of speech and honor the memories of the many who have died defending our right to say whatever is on our minds.
When things seem dark, there is light and comfort in community.
