Spoor of the Bookworm

Today was the anniversary of Jake's death, which probably didn't do it any favours. Kit and I are no doubt ready for another dog but we're restrained by financial and physical factors, he'd be a hard act to follow anyway.

I know, I'll go and bash my guitar, see if I can get the cats to sing along again....righting the world with "three chords and the truth!"...

...on which subject here's http://youtu.be/e7SK9Pybydc a link to Today's Earworm, a song about one of my most lasting heroes, John Maclean, a sober and reflective piece concentrating on his time breaking granite in Peterhead prison's quarry while being drugged and force fed. Previous songs celebrating him, namely Hamish Henderson's "John Maclean March" and Matt McGinn's "Ballad of John Maclean" concentrate on his defiance and the enormous impact he had during his lifetime, this is a more human piece about the price exacted from him for speaking truth to power.
