HAPPY
January Challenge Week 1
A quiet day indoors today. Good intentions of getting all sorts of jobs done but in the end didn't do very much at all. Popped outside to put some bird food out and the weather seemed OK - quite mild and sunny.
The challenge word today is PLASTIC. Big choice of what to blip but I have chosen this little plastic Esso man. ( Bought at a car boot sale over 30 years ago ). The name Esso is derived from the initials of the pre 1911 Standard Oil Company - S O. "Esso Man" also known as "Happy" - is the famous face of Esso merchandising with his head representing an oil drop. My Esso man was part of a key ring. The key rings were first introduced in the 1950's and were produced until the 1980's. Unfortunately mine is quite worn and the Esso logo is no longer visible. He's still cute though.
Watch the Esso HAPPY advert for a blast from the past. ( USA style ).
Bit of useful ( ?? ) info for you........... Petroliana is a category of collectables that is related to petrol stations or the petroleum industry. Petroliana memorabilia include items such as old petrol pumps, fuel advertisements, enamel or tin signs, oil cans and tins, and road maps.
