Dead Derwent

Today while Mrs A S and Miller had there lesson with Sarah I took a walk. Through the pastures along the banks of the River Derwent. I was surprised to see the amount wood and brash was in the river and while I saw numerous birds, a tree creeper, lots of longtailed tits, blue tits and chaffinches, not a fish broke the surface and no flash of blue from a kingfisher did I spy. When we were liveried at this yard and our horses grazed the riverside pastures the fish and the winged and two footed  fishers were many. I was told today when I asked about practicing my reawoken  fishing gene, that the river was empty. Seven pairs of otters  having been introduced on a short stretch of the river have decimated the chub, roach and dace stocks. The trees and brash have to be left to slow the river down! English Natures idea of improving the river! No fish and more flooding of farmland not my idea of improvement :(
In all a good day slightly darkened by being the second anniversary of YR leaving us.
Take care one and all .
