The Norris Almshouses

Built in 1903 at a cost of £7000.00 these four almshouses are in our neighbouring village. The houses have undergone modernisation and still provide homes for four local people to rent at reasonable rates.

Our village also had thatched almshouses that were destroyed by fire in the 19th century. Stories are told about the large families who lived in cramped conditions in the almshouses. However, remaining in the village was preferable to going into the workhouse.
