...Lena's birthday today and shortly we will go and celebrate with a slap up meal and a bottle of bubbly!

This morning, we drove over to Camogli, where we spent the morning exploring the town and enjoying a midmorning coffee overlooking the castle and church, followed by a really delicious lunch a little later.

After lunch, we took the footpath up to San Rocco. Mama mia! there were a lot of steps. A real lot of steps. Fortunately, the route from here to a Devil's Causeway type spit of rock called Punta Chiappa, was all downhill. This first took us to the beautiful church of San Nicole before dropping down to the tiny fishing harbour that is also used to land tourists who do not fancy the long steep walk. From the harbour it was a short walk to the rocky point.

For those with an interest in geology, the whole Portofino headland is formed of conglomerate laid down by rivers 150 million years ago. I saw a few examples of conglomerate on geology field trips back in the UK but they were as nothing compared to this.

Today's blip is of the old fishing port in Camogli, with its colourful boats and delightful reflections...
