Cathedral Square Jan 1, 2015

After feeding Jamie's cat I stopped in the city for a few shots on my way home. There were a number of people about and if that horrid easterly wind wasn't blowing it would have been a beautiful day.

Cathedral Square has long been a community focal point in Christchurch City, a place where people come together, in good times and bad, and a backdrop for scores of significant historical events.

On February 22, 2011 a 6.3 earthquake struck the city and badly damaged many buildings including the ChristChurch Cathedral, and the toppled statue of city founder John Robert Godley in the square. The CBD was evacuated soon afterwards, and the Square becomes off limits to the public when it falls within the Central City Red Zone, established by the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA).

In June 2013 Cathedral Square re-opened again to the public for the first time since the day of the 22 February earthquake in 2011.

A very happy 2015 to you all
