Wood pigeon in the rain

During one of today's many very heavy rain showers I watched this wood pigeon perched on some trellis in our garden.

Unlike all the other birds in the garden this pigeon didn't fly off to somewhere more sheltered, but seemed to relish getting drenched, and repeatedly stretched out one of its wings high into the air. I have no idea why it was doing this.
