Coot building its nest

I took a lunchtime walk past the lake inDerby's Alvaston Park today and came across this coot building her nest. She was using anything she could find as building material. When I first noticed her she was incorporating a paper flyer into the nest, and as I took this photo she was just adding another large twig she had just fished up from the lake bed.

Just before I took this photo 3 mallard ducks strayed too close and were very aggressively seen off.

I hope all her work is not in vain. She has chosen a very vulnerable spot close to the edge of the lake. I shall be keep coming by here over the summer to see if she has made a success of it.
