Tomatin Distillery Mash Tun

Today, with the Hogmanay Bells fast approaching, I took daughter Christina and her friend Ryan to visit the Tomatin Distillery. The distillery is situated some 16 miles south of Inverness by the side of an old cattle drover's road and traces its origins to a 15th century illicit still that provided whisky to  passing drovers and others.  The current distillery was commissioned in 1897. My blip provides a rare peek at the innards of the Mash Tun, in which crushed barley is mixed with hot water to remove natural sugars - a key stage in the distillation process. A good day out, topped off by a tasting of various drams. Whilst Tomatin is better known for The Antiquary Deluxe Blend, the Cù Bòcan, a recently introduced peated single malt, was our favourite. Slàinte!
