Godwits - a first for this estuary
Great excitement as a small group of godwits have moved into the cemetery estuary just this week. The godwits usually stay out on the sandspits to the east and have done so for many years. They fly in after a non stop flight from Alaska in late September then spend the summer fattening up before going back to Alaska via China to breed.
I confirmed with another bird watcher/photographer Roy, that it was the first time they had been in this estuary and he was excited too.
Only about 7 birds that were at the top near the road when I started out but a noisy oyster catcher flew in and they went into the middle. So my photo has that "grainy" look but at least I have one.
