It's Amaryllis time!

I have no idea how long ago it was when the first amaryllis bulb was grown by one of us.  Since we have been in this house, we have added to the collection most years and there are now 13 buds either peeping out of the bulb tops, or much further on. This one is new and has a second bud about to burst, awkwardly at the same height as the first, and a third to come later.

We will have a wonderful show in our kitchen over the next few weeks. The down side is that the bulbs have to be fed after that and the large leaves straggle everywhere.

I have just discovered that an alternative name for these is naked lady.  One of our varieties is called lucious lips!

We've had a quiet day at home which we have enjoyed.
