The Jewelled Cross
Today we walked down to the local lake which is now frozen enough that there were a couple of people out fishing through the ice. A little more snow has fallen, just enough to cover the grass, so the world is white.
The stream flowing out of the lake was still open and the black water was reflecting the trees and sky beautifully. Both Jan and I took a lot of pictures but hers were slightly better and she got a fantastic blip.
I also decided to go for detail. These ice crystals are formed on a twig that is fixed to the bank but is lying just on the surface of the water. The air is so dry that the water evaporates and the water vapour then immediately freezes onto the crystals of ice.
The whole natural sculpture is about 10 cm (4 in) long.
