The new train
Yesterday a wonderful box arrived at our doorstep. I had reserved a N scale Union Pacific FEF # 844 locomotive and excursion train, along with two water tenders. They are made by Kato USA from Japan. Exquisite. Even though I do not have the layout track in place, I do have a couple of tracks laid and wired on my staging yard so I set up the train and ran it - for about 3 feet. The mechanism is perfect and very smooth. A nice Christmas present from me to me.
This is an actual train run by the UP on excursion trips. The locomotive #844 is a Northern - with four lead wheels, eight drivers, and four trailing wheels - therefore "FEF" or 4-8-4. I believe it is the longest continuously running locomotive in the US. I have pined for one for many years and Kato finally decided to bring one out. Well with the wait.
It is put away awaiting more track to run on. Also, I will be installing a sound decoder so that it will make all the right sounds.
Sorry for the fuzzy long shot.
