Artistic Touches

One welcome feature of the festive season is that it brings out the artistic qualities in all of us.  Well, in our house , at least.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without the few additional touches that make us feel a little special.


Christmas trees and holly wreathes whether real or artificial  are one thing, the tinsel and the glitter are all part of the charisma of the time of year. Yet to my mind it is those extras that make something individual.


Of course you can buy table decorations and the bits and pieces which all go to creating character and craft them into your own arrangements, and for the sake of expediency the result is effective.


There was a time when all such decorations in our household were hand made, and we even had a regular stand at the Christmas Fair held in the local golf club.  But trying to sell handmade craft items is not an easy task, particularly if the object is to make profit, either for yourself or a favourite charity. 


Our experience was that pricing handmade crafts would inevitably lead to the selling price being more than people would reasonably expect to pay, simply because no-one ever appreciated the actual cost of the materials, yet alone the time taken to produce whatever the craft item was.  You had to do it for pure self satisfaction.



And who’s denying our current table and side decorations inject good feeling and colour into too often grey and wet December days?
