Nanjing
First day in Nanjing.
Yesterday we finally made it to the city. We got out of our first class seats in the train and went out. Getting to the hostel was rather easy. Actually, we went to the right place in one try. A Chinese girl saw as looking at a map and wanted to help us find our way at the train station. We took the subway and followed the instructions that were on our hotel reservations paper. That worked out perfectly.
At the hostel itself I was a little bit more worried, because the girl behind the reception started off with: I wasn't expecting you anymore..
But they still had place for us. Only not in one room.. Luckily that got fixed today.
After dropping our stuff and relaxing our shoulders we went for a walk and discovered we are right in a shopping centre of Nanjing. The city looked beautiful at night with a lot of lights and all the shops were still open, so we had a good time enjoying a nice evening stroll. A few 'Hi's and an accessional ' Welcome to China ' were said to us.
Today we got up quite slowly and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at the hostel. They had English ones, American and even European ones. Western food, yay!
We went up to the Yangtze river in the morning. Marlene really wanted to see this. Unfortunately because of the weather (or pollution, I am never sure...) the view wasn't that wonderful. Nonetheless we enjoyed the rest of the park. Climbed some rocks and made some lovely and weird pictures.
The bus ride back was very easy and we visited the big park Xuanwu. We walked around there and ended up on the old city walls of Nanjing.
Of course the day was not complete without a visit to the Starbucks and a foreign language bookstore we stumbled on.
We ended the day at the hostel with some well deserved drinks and a game of pool.
