Dr. Peggy Smith Congratulations!
Today a special friend, Peg Smith, received her Doctrate Degree from USC. She has worked diligently the past three years and today was the victory moment. I know there were lots of little victories along the way, but today is the biggie.
Her two sons, Miah (with beard), flew in from St. Louis and her younger son, Justin, flew in from Houston. The graduation party is tomorrow evening at Java Joe's in Yorba Linda so that will be loads of fun.
We've known Peg and her hubby, Scott, since September of 1981 when we all met at a family camp on Catalina Island. Their little boys were babies then. In the years since , we've spent lots of pleasurable time with these wonderful friends. We've traveled lots, eaten lots of food, listened to lots of music and listened as Scott made music on his guitar, and we've built an entire museum of memories with them.
Peg and I did not attend college together, but we were both re-entry students working on degrees at approximately the same time in the late 80s. She teaches college level geography and I love traveling with her.
She and I enjoyed a fabulous cruise from Montreal to Boston in the summer of 2003 and then the next summer we traveled to Europe and enjoyed a HollandAmerica cruise called the "Capitals of the Baltic." Together with our hubbies, the four of us have traveled a couple of America's rivers from St. Louis on the Mississippi River and then turned onto the Ohio River and sailed to Pittsburgh on the American Queen Paddlewheeler Steamboat in the summer of 2000. We also taken shorter trips on the Pacific Coast. They are terrific buddies.
In the last number of years our paths haven't aligned as much as we'd like for them too, but we know that when the timing is right, the alignment will happen again.
Good night from the land of Commencement!
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
