Callanish standing stones, Lewis
A morning break from beach photography, by visiting the standing stones on the west coast of Lewis. Amazing to see, and even better that you can get right up close to them.
Like a lot of the stone circles in the highlands and islands of Scotland, they date back many thousands of years. Although they don't align with the sun perfectly now, it's been proven that they did when it was first built (the movement of the earth has changed subtly over the millennia). More info on the stones here.
