Chris on his way up.
A detour on the trip to take in Mont Ventoux because it is there. I thought only a cyclist would understand our need to get to the top of this prominent Provencal icon but we shared the road with walkers, sports cars, quad bikers and many many motorcyclists. The initial part of the hill was through trees but at Chalet Reynard 6Km from the top you burst out into a lunar type landscape of barren white limestone rock and piercing wind. We were grateful to have Russ and Neil waiting for us at the summit with water for coffee and tea, sandwiches and warm clothing for the fast descent.
Not a long day and not many Kilometres but the hardest day we have done yet.
Chris wanted to join a select group - the "Cringlés" - so headed back downhill when he reached Chalet Reynard and having already completed 3/4 of the climb from Bedoin, he did it again from Sault. We passed him 4Km from the top as we started our descent. Incroiable.
