Bank Holiday Monday

Since it wasn't chucking it down with rain, we decided to have a rare family day out. We started at Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens, a small animal centre near Ponteland that is staffed by students from the college. The girls were thrilled to see the meerkats and chameleon in particular.

Next, since it wasn't too late, we drove on to the seaside and stopped at Whitley Bay. It was freezing cold and windy, and sadly the tide was in, so we couldn't get over to St Mary's Lighthouse (but Grace was fascinated by the idea of a tide so it was a good science opportunity!). However, we had a lovely potter on the beach all the same.

Going through Ponteland was poignant since today would have been my Mam's 78th birthday, and she married my Dad in the church that we drove past today.
