We ventured right to the base of 'Emma', totally awed by the size and silenced by the eerie thrum as the blades whizzed overhead. Up to recently I've been quite 'anti' wind farms after talks with David Bellamy. Apparently they kill birds by the thousand, and have inflicted particular damage to eagle populations in the US. Offshore windfarms cause many seaduck casualties.
However, I've done more research and must now review my opinion. According to the RSPB, birds appear to be changing their migration routes to avoid windfarms and although 78,000 birds were estimated to have died through impact with the blades in the States in 2005 this pales when compared to the 100 million that died through impacting with plate glass over the same period!
