The Three Maidens

More of a walking day today. An 11 mile coastal walk with some stunning scenery. The weather stayed dry so fortune was favouring me too.

This shot was taken at the far end of the walk before heading back. Legend has it that Macleod's Maidens, three sea stacks lying to the south of Idrigill Point on Skye, are named after the wife and daughters of one of the Macleod chiefs. The chief had been wounded in a battle on the island of Harris and his family were returning to Dunvegan Castle when their boat was wrecked in a storm and they were drowned.

Unusually for being out for a walking day I took a long break for lunch. Just near the maidens I found a sheltered spot ticked into a hollow looking out across The Minch to South Uist, Rum and Canna. Out of the wind the sun was lovely and warm, and I relaxed just starring out to sea and thinking how beautiful nature is - something we so often fail to see when we're caught up in out busy lives. I left to walk back feeling more uplifted than I have in years.

Tomorrow brings the ferry across to Harris and Lewis, and the start of the workshop with Bruce Perry. I love the simplicity of some of the pictures he has on his website, so just hoping I can learn some tricks and tips over the next few days.
