I could have presented an action shot of David Denton crashing over for the opening try or one of the referee hoisting his yellow card to the sky to send off yet another Treviso player. Or an image of the great Chris Paterson scoring a wonderful try on his final ever game of competitive rugby marking the end of a record breaking career.

But I chose an image that would remind me of Edinburgh's season; hot and cold. In 2012 they reached the semi-final of the Heineken Cup, the first time a Scottish team had reached those heady heights and all that entails (Kerching). In the same season they have finished 2nd from bottom in the league, the first time a Scottish team has plumbed these depths.
