Stairway to Hell

A little while ago I blipped Antwerp here and the stairway to heaven.

Here is the other extreme as this is the stairway to hell as with the River Thames in flood the landing stage etc have disappeared

I'll bore you with a little bit of history...

In the background is Platts Eyot, it is actually a man made island created in the late 1800's when The Metropolitan Water Board were excavating and building the reservoirs (behind me in this photo) They couldn't decide what to you with the soil etc so they stuck it in barges and dumped it in the middle of the river.....

So these steps had a purpose as this was where they loaded the barges!!
