Respect
Here are some people that I have the ultimate amount of respect for. This is a shot taken from Sincil Bank looking back down Cross Street towards Lincoln city centre. In the bottom right of the picture are six individuals representing Bradford City FC about to embark on a walk from Sincil Bank to Valley Parade in Bradford for charity. Their chosen charity is the Bradford Burns Unit.
On Saturday May 11th 1985 a total of 56 fans were killed and some 265 others injured when fire broke out in the stands during Bradfords last game of the season. Many people know of this tragic event, but few know that the opponents that day were Lincoln City.
This is why these brave souls are walking 80 odd miles back to Bradford. Every year they do something to raise funds for the unit and in memory of the fans who died. I made sure I got to the ground to see them off and have a photo taken with me as Poacher. Len (the guy in the kit here) is the Bradford City mascot The City Gent and has been a friend of mine now for best part of 14 years. I first met him back in 1999 at Wembley and since then our paths have crossed a million times on the mascot circuit. He's a top bloke and a credit to his City.
In other news I've been absent again recently. We hosted a Sustainability Event at the branch yesterday and it went on until almost 10pm. The last two weeks have been absolutely manic as we prepare for the event. Two months ago I was presented with a 40 odd square metre area of the branch full of old stock and rubbish and was tasked with turning it into a showroom ready for the event. I led the project and last night was the pinnacle of all the hard work. I have got some snaps of the work being done which I'll back blip, but now I'm looking forward to 3 well earned days off in Cambridge.
