Stretton Parish Church
Backblip
A quiet Sunday - at church in the morning, then a walk in the afternoon to walk off the Sunday dinner! There's some lovely neighborhood walks around where Roger's Mum and Dad and Janet and John live, so we just walked locally. Our walk took us past St. Matthews, the Parish church of the village of Stretton. I thought the tower was quite interesting as if you look carefully, (clearer if you look in large), you will notice that the clock faces don't have numbers or Roman numerals, but are instead letter mottoes. These date back to 1963, when the Vicar, the Reverend Thomas E. N. Pennell, asked his Churchwarden, Mr Wallace Miln, to think up a few twelve letter mottos that might be suitable. Mr Miln produced over 80! They finally chose "Time is not all" and "Forget not God".
