Day 10 - Cape Cod
Breakfast in bed - big fat muffins and fresh coffee. Ventured out late morning and headed east to the Lower Cape. Ticked off lighthouses, sand dunes and beaches from our I-spy list. The weather was glorious all day - amazing blue skies, and just about warm enough for me to be in shorts. Given that it's October this was brilliant!
Walked on the beach at Nauset, waves crashing around us, surfers riding them to shore. Water was cold but who cared. Explored the small town of Wellfleet (home of a drive-in cinema but it's shut for the winter! shame!) before heading further north to Provincetown, a 'colourful' and busy town right at the end of the Cape, famous for it's care free attitude to life. A great place to walk around, and we had take-out lunch at a place on the seafront, sat on picnic benches and watched the tourists pass by (loads of tour groups there - all making us feel both young and slim....)
Slowly drove back via Truro and another lighthouse, the 'light' getting better by the hour and the exposures on my camera going past the 300 mark - when it's this photogenic it's hard not to take pictures.
After nearly 7 hours out we headed back to Orleans and caught this Cape Cod sunset at the beach there. Spectacular. Crashed the supermarket after that and bought our tea, and now back at our cosy condo to crash out - so much fresh air, so many sights today. Will definitely sleep...
(over-exposed the image by a couple of stops, sharpened slightly in iPhoto, but this is pretty much what it was like....)
