My life, my lens

Sea to Sky Highway

A day of contrasts. After a fantastic breakfast we packed up our stuff and checked out of L'Hermitage for the next part of our journey. The staff at the hotel had been great during our stay and after we had a problem with our phone (crossed wire with the room next door) they gave us free breakfast and free dinner. It really makes a difference when people appreciate your custom and care that you had a good experience with them.

Our next stop was CanaDream to collect our home for the next ten days of our trip. We are renting their small DVC van which is prefect for us to explore the area.

We then headed out across Vancouver to pick up the Sea to Sky highway which is a legendary route from Vancouver to Whistler which was our destination. Matt mastered driving on the right-side of the road really quickly and I got my maps ready to navigate if needed.

The views were spectacular with rugged snow capped mountains all around falling away down to the sea and small islands. Due to the weather the views were hindered by low cloud and rain so we only stopped twice on route. The first was Furry Creek to see the view and then Shannon Falls. The Falls are over a thousand feet high and originate from the glaciers of Mount Habrich and Mount Sky Pilot. They are really impressive but the combination of rain and waterfall mist made for a very wet experience!

Onwards to Whistler and first sight of snow on the ground and the panic of whether we had enough warm clothes! Quick supermarket stop to stock up and then we parked up at our site for the night.

There are black bears in the area so I did find myself imagining noises throughout the night and what they could be!
